![]() Film Stocks /HD Set-ups - I’ve been told of the great success I’d have if I’d create HD set-ups that mimic film stocks. To be honest, that’s like making an apple out of an orange, it can’t really be done. However, there are attributes of film stocks that do carry over and are not set-up specific. For example, suppose you like how the 7274 stock handles the highlights and also like how the 7289 stock handles the blacks. I can dial both of those attributes into a single HD set-up. Additionally, suppose you like the way the 5285 stock creates intensely saturated colors but with accurate skin tones. Those attributes to can also be dialed into the set-up which has already combined the 7274 highlights and 7289 blacks.
Due to the extreme sophistication of camera menus, HD can also combine attributes that previously were only associated with transfer and/or post. A process such as Bleach Bypass can be created with similar results in camera through manipulation of colors and blacks. Of course all of the before mentioned set-ups can be observed on set through an HD monitor until the look is perfected.
